A series of bowls with a characteristic semi-gloss, grainy texture, made from washi paper and treated with Urushi varnish. Its intuitive and vernacular shape is derived from a folded sheet of paper and the tension it produces. The three sizes in this series refer to the A-series of international standards for paper formats (ISO 216). An elegant juxtaposition of industrial standards and traditional craftsmanship methods, the Fold bowls are light, durable, and waterproof. Manufactured by Tanaka Urushi Studio in Japan.
This project was exhibited through NOV Gallery at Milan Design Week, as part of a research project about the materiality of paper.
